Has anyone here ever sewn their own garment? I made a cloak back in high school and just last year I made my first robe. Hopefully I'll eventually get a better sewing machine so I can make a better one.

I have sewn some things for my parents and myself. I am actually wanting to go get fabric and patterns to make some maternity clothes. Also I would love to make my own cloak!!! My biggest project this year is making baby clothes and costumes for the kids.

I crochet too! I wonder if I could make a robe out of crochet. Making maternity clothes is cool, too. My mom used to make my costumes when I was a kid and now I plan to do that for my daughter.

That's true. But you don't think making a robe or cloak out of crochet would look too dorky? lol

Yea, I know whatcha mean. I just think with my poor eyesight, crocheting myself a robe would be so much easier, you know? It's so hard for me to bend down over my tiny sewing machine and sew a straight stitch. That's why I don't like the robe I made last year. I used a pattern that ended up being ridiculously big and I just hate it. Crocheting is so much more relaxing and fun to me.

Yeah, have you thought of pulling in the seams to make it smaller?

I've tried, but again with my eyesight and how the bell sleeves are, it's really difficult.

I made a tutu for my daughter last night and I only had to sew the elastic together! My next tutu will take more sewing then on to some clothes for myself! Do you have any current projects?

That's really cool! I saw the picture on Facebook! Right now I'm currently working on curtains for our new place, but I lost the foot pedal to my sewing machine during the move. Once I find it in one of our boxes I'll be able to finish them.

I've sewn a TON. So much so that I make my own patterns for robes and don't bother with the patterns from stores. Actually, I'm coming out of a hiatus from sewing, as I got sick of it for a while there. But I just bought a new machine and plan to get back into it. I also crochet and recently learned to knit. If you do crochet a robe, try looking for a stitch pattern that is lighter weight, otherwise your robe will weigh a lot! Now that you've got my mind thinking about it, if I were to crochet ritual garb, it would probably be an outer layer in a lacy pattern to wear over a skirt/tank top.... maybe. Are any of you on Ravelry? (a social site for crochet/knitters that links up to patterns) I found an AWESOME cape/cloak pattern there that I want to do someday. my name on Ravelry is dancingarden so if you are there you can friend me there and then look through my favorites to find it.
