What is everyone's thoughts on the Dianic tradition? I found this website called Dianic University (http://wicca.dianic-wicca.com/) and in my personal opinion I just feel like it seems rather closed-minded. In order to join, you must be a woman born a woman. So that not only excludes men, but it seems to exclude any and all transgendered. Does anyone else have any thoughts about this? Has anyone ever known a Dianic Wiccan? I've seriously thought about Dianic Wicca in the past, but then I think about the God and I feel like in order to be Dianic you must abandon the God. Is this true? It just seems rather strange to me.

It does kinda sound like they abandon the God. They seem to think that only the female aspect matters, but one cannot exist without the other.

I like that answer, too. Anymore I keep finding how closed-minded the Wiccan and Pagan community really is.

Being a solitary I havn't met alot of people within the pagan community, but those that I have met have been very open minded. But every religion has it's black sheep that are basically a very closed minded cult.

It does kinda sound like they abandon the God. They seem to think that only the female aspect matters, but one cannot exist without the other. It is more like the male aspect of the Divine is not that important. I have read several Dianic rituals and they do call upon male deities, but it is only in a consort association. Also I don't consider them closed minded. Most Dianics came around doing the 60's and 70's when women were still struggling to get equal pay, job opportunities, and that they were not only house wives to serve their husbands. To them it is a balance in a a way that most of the world is still male dominated and their religion, there piece of freedom, is female dominated. Balance on a large scale, not just a religious one.

I can kind of understand that. I mean, I left Christianity because of the issues I saw with the male-dominated culture. But in order to join this one Dianic website, the application asks clearly if you are a woman born a woman. I've met quite a few people in the Pagan community who are either gay males, men who want to be women, or women who want to be men. That doesn't mean they love or respect the Goddess any less. So why can't they join a coven who is devoted to the Goddess and the female aspects of Her? For example, if Glen wanted to join a Dianic coven, they would refuse his application all because he's male. That doesn't seem right to me. That's like if a woman were to want to join Christianity, Islam, or Judaism and they all said no because of her gender. It's not the Goddess-oriented views that I find closed-minded, but the closed admittance to anyone who is not a woman born woman.

There are all different kinds of Goddess oriented Pagan religions, this one just wants it to be an all girls club. I guess I'm weird, I really don't see any problem with it. There are groups that only have gay members, or male members, or family members only. If it was the only Goddess oriented coven to join then I would see the issue, but as there are so many different Pagan and Wiccan traditions to choose from I don't see the problem

You know, you bring up a very good point. I've looked further into the Dianic Wicca philosophy and it looks like they don't think any less of men or even sons of members. I have friends in all-gay-male covens, so I guess it's really not that different after all. Thank you for your insight. I found this website that showed a little more into the tradition: dianic-wicca.com/dianic-wicca-tradition.html
