Does anyone have any big plans for this month? We have our meeting on the 23rd, but other than that what's everyone up to? Does everyone have plans for Samhain or Halloween parties to attend? Is everyone dressing up this year?
Of course, we're going to be taking our daughter trick-or-treating around here. The hubby wants to be a viking and I just bought a Medieval dress, so I'm going to be his Celtic wench slave. The baby's going to be Ariel from the Little Mermaid. I just order hers and my costumes, but still need Sargon to figure out which costume he wants. No idea whether we're going to any parties or anything.
What about you guys?

oh lord and lady... october is always a full packed month for me! My favorite time of year! I work at a scrapbook store, and we're having a Fight Like a Girl crop (all day scrapbook event) next weekend. Then the following weekend I'm going out of town for a THREE DAY scrapbook event with girlfriends. Then the following weekend is our meeting. The last weekend is a science fiction convention in Cedar Rapids, we go every year... I've been going for the last 20 yrs... that's like a 3 day party in a hotel for sci-fi/Fantasy/horror readers. I need to figure out some costumes for that... and those aren't even halloween costumes. I don't know yet what I'm wearing for Halloween. Neither does my 5yr old son... and then, my son's birthday is Nov 1... so we have to figure out when we're celebrating that. Our anniversary is Nov 2... Happy Dia de los Muertos! Actually... I have always wanted to make a costume inspired by the Day of the Dead... painted skull and everything. I might do that this year for Halloween.

The convention sounds very fun. I love all that kind of stuff.

Oh wow, Habibidancer! That is definitely a packed month for you. My mother-in-law loves scrapbooking and I'd love to get into it. Maybe we should have an all-day workshop devoted to holiday crafts. I can teach you all how to make some simple Yule decorations and Habibidancer can show us some tricks of fun scrapbooking? Also, I think I may try to attend the Samhain gathering on the 29th in Cedar Rapids. Lorifiya, your costumes sound like fun! I can't wait until my Medieval dresses arrive in a few weeks. I ordered them from someone who makes them herself.

Sweet, the homemade stuff always looks so much better for those dresses.

Here's what I bought, if you want to take a look: www.renaissancedress.com/fairestarterpack.htm. I ordered one in green and one in French wine. And I bought one short-sleeved chemise and one long-sleeved. Now that I have a sewing machine again, I should really try to make my own.

My plans for this amazing month are a few things! First to take tons of pictures it is such a beautiful season! Second making way for baby, our daughter is due at the end of this month and we are actually hoping she will come on Halloween I would rather it happen on its own but if I haven't had her by then we are scheduling to be induced on Samhain. We are dressing up our kids and ourselves this year for family pictures! I am Mother Nature, my husband is a Warrior but wants to be pinhead, the kids are a Pirate, Princess Belle, Thor, and baby will be either a bride. All kids have skelton shirts too for a fun one of just them. This is our favorite season and holiday so we are deciding that our traditional families will deal with our creative love for the holiday lol. I would love to attend the meeting but I am not even going to my military drill that weekend because I am due so close after it.

That's understandable. I figured that you wouldn't be traveling too far from Clinton around the end of the month. I hope you do have a Samhain baby! That would be cool. I'm still planning on coming to your baby shower on the 16th, by the way.

I was induced on oct 30, and my son was born on nov 1... of course, they don't let most women labor that long.
Anyway, now 5 years later, I wish I'd waited till his due date. Even though his birthday is nov 1 instead of oct 31, it's still a huge pain to have his birthday that close to halloween. his due date was nov 7, and I wish now I'd waited till his due date to induce. there's just too much going on in our lives around halloween, and making room to celebrate his birthday just adds more stress.

I was born in January... Haha. But I can imagine having a birthday that close to Halloween would be a pain... Cool, but a pain!
To be honest, most of this month is consisting of marching band, cross country, and school work. Although, I'm most definitely looking forward to Halloween. Still don't know what I'm going to be...

I know what you mean, Habibidancer. My mother's birthday is the 23rd of December, so it's always been really difficult for her family to celebrate her birthday. They never had very much money when she was little, so most years her birthday and Christmas was wrapped up into one. It doesn't help that her mother passed away on the 21st of December 20 years ago, so Christmas usually isn't a very fun time for my mom. Mine is right around Mother's Day and I refuse to let my husband wrap it and my birthday into one now that we have a daughter. I have two special occasions that just happen to be back to back, but dammit I deserve two holidays! lol

I think a Halloween birthday would be AMAZING!! Every year instead of doing the trick or treating all the kids get to dress up for a birthday party in Halloween style! Lady Motevia I can't wait to meet you in person!
